Dear Friends of the Lincoln Community Forest,
We have done a lot this year and touched many people's lives through outdoor experiences in the Lincoln Community Forest. Thank you volunteers, members, educators and donors!
And thank you to those who renewed their membership and continued your support. If you haven't, please renew your membership or consider a donation. You can pay on-line https://www.friendslcf.com/donations/donation-form/ or send a check along with the attached form. As an all volunteer organization, your memberships and contributions go to our work in the Forest.
A few highlights from 2022:
We built a foot bridge on the far end of Marengo Ridge trail! Materials were funded by a Bayfield County's Health Infrastructure grant (Thank you Bayfield County!) and our Friends project budget. Many members volunteered 150 hours to design and build it.

Our 6th Annual Friends Appreciation Picnic was held in August. We saw good fundraising success and a lot of pizzas consumed.
Trails were well maintained and are still in great shape. We brush mowed the tread of all our hiking trails, making it much easier to follow the Marengo Ridge and Beaver Loop trails. We have 5.5 miles of trails and a new map that includes trail distances (see attached). Ski trails are groomed!
Hot news: we applied for the "Round up for Partners" grant with the Chequamegon Food Cooperative https://www.chequamegonfoodcoop.com/rfp/ and were successful in being selected for December 2023. The funds raised through this program will be channeled to education programs and materials. Please support our Chequamegon Food Cooperative in Ashland throughout the year. You can Round Up for a different organization every month.
The LIttle Library at the trailhead continues to be popular. We fill it with nature books, focusing on books for children. Our Seek and Find scavenger hunt is also well used.
We have big plans for this coming year (2023):
The Boardwalk to Mikinaak Lake will be built this coming summer! We are near our $20,000 funding goal - only $2,000 more needed. The design is near final and we have reserved a WisCorps crew for one week. This will open up tremendous opportunities for education and a fun, short hike with Mikinaak Lake as the destination. Join us for a ribbon cutting event in August. And thank you to the organizations who have pledged donations: Landmark Conservancy and Bayfield County Health Infrastructure grant. A big thanks to several individuals who have made generous donations too. The Friends have budgeted $3,500 from our project budget.
Monthly activities or programs are planned for the Second Saturday of each month in the Forest, to be led by Friends volunteers. Everyone is welcome, member or not. January 14 and February 11 at 1:30 p.m. will be our first activities of guided snow activities, including snowshoeing, skiing, fat biking and a grooming demonstration. March 11 will be wildlife tracking, led by Abi Fergus. We will send and post a full schedule soon.
Trail maintenance and wildlife monitoring are fun volunteer activities that you can participate in as you are able. Is anyone interested in becoming a bat, turtle or water quality monitor?
Please renew your membership or consider a bigger donation. You can pay on-line https://www.friendslcf.com/donations/donation-form/ or send a check along with the attached form.
Please also consider contributing to our endowment, the Forest Forever Fund. This fund will ensure the Lincoln Community Forest is sustainably managed for public enjoyment in the future by generating revenue from the investment. Click here for more information and/or to donate.
None of this work would happen without the support of the owner, Landmark Conservancy. Thank them when you get a chance: info@landmarkwi.org
Sincerely,
Pam Dryer, President
