Call for Volunteers - Forest Lodge fall clean up and winter prep
Saturday November 4 - 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
It's time for the annual fall cleanup and winter preparation at historic Forest Lodge in Cable, Wisconsin!
There are a variety of tasks volunteers may choose to help with:
Close screen porch on Guest House and move furniture cushions to Maid’s Cabin.
Cover the Main Lodge porch logs (front and back)
Exchange the Boathouse and Gatehouse screens for storm windows
Cover benches around fire pit by cow pasture/Lake Namakagon
Store picnic tables in Cow Palace and bowling green furniture in Lake water Pumphouse.
General yard and trail clean-up (pick-up and consolidate branches and wood chunks)
Blow leaves off the lawn, foot paths, and outdoor stairways.
Remove vegetation along building foundations.
Remove flowers from window boxes and big planter boxes on Main Lodge (leave soil in boxes)
Store boats (in Boathouse)
Since these are all outdoor activities, if it rains, we may need to adjust the time frame (e.g., start/end later in the day) or reschedule for a different day. Tentative rain dates are Sunday, November 5th 1-4 and Saturday, November 18th, 9-12. In the event of rain, I will contact you about the plan.
Please bring a sack lunch; water and snacks will be provided. Wear layers of clothing; bring work gloves. Tools and supplies will be provided.
Forest Lodge is an 872-acre estate with more than one dozen primary buildings. Most of the buildings were constructed in the 1920s and 1930s, and they are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The property was a life estate from 1999 to 2013, when it was conveyed to the USDA Forest Service through the Trust for Public Land. The USDA Forest Service has managed the site since 2013.
Northland College has been a partner developing and organizing conservation education programing at Forest Lodge since 2016.
