The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public input on a proposed next step in improving accessibility in the Apostle Island National Seashore.
The comment period closes on May 12, 2023.

Bayfield, WI -The draft Environmental Assessment (EA), "Create Accessible Ramp at Meyers Beach and New Trail Network at Little Sand Bay Project", which evaluates a proposed accessible beach ramp at Meyers Beach and a new trail network at Little Sand Bay, is available for public review starting today (April 12). The EA will be available for public review and comment for 30 days, and will include a virtual open house on April 26, 2023 at 7:00 pm CST before the period closes on May 12, 2023.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 1 in 4 U.S. adults — 61 million Americans — have a disability that impacts major life activities.
The most common disability type, mobility, affects 1 in 7 adults. With age, disability becomes more common, affecting about 2 in 5 adults age 65 and older.
“At some point we all will benefit from accessibility improvements,” she noted. “When I had small children, I needed stroller access. When I had surgery and was on crutches, I needed access. When I was in a car accident and in a wheelchair, I needed access. … As I get older my eyesight may not be as good, but I will still need access.”
